Flash May Be The Answer

Don’t hate the Flash!

For a while now, people have realised that you need type and HTML on a website for search engines to find it. Try calling any web designer and telling them that you want a 100% flash website built. See if they object to the lack of SEO, the problems with anyone being able to find it, and the problems they might have updating the site.

So I found it really interesting that some of the winners last year of Interactive Media Awards were either all Flash sites, or sites that feature a lot of Flash content. It certainly is refreshing to see a lot of sites that don’t look like templates, Web 2.0 or any other form of trend that is just way too common.

It’s time that designers and website owners start being less afraid of all that Flash. More and more people are getting faster and faster internet connections and download times are no longer as much of a problem as they used to be.  I still build sites with dial up customers in mind (think of visitors in rural areas), but for sites that just need that extra flair, I’m going to be giving it some Flash.

As far as the Interactive Media Awards, here are some of my faves:

123 Racing

Adidas Pistol Pete

Body by Milk

Nestlé Chocolatier

Pet Shop Boys

So now I’m looking forward to hear who the winners for 2008 are. Maybe I’ll post them here. Otherwise, you can find them at the Interactive Media Awards site.
