Design Only Has Three Choices

November 6th, 2008 § 0 comments

This is something that pervades my thinking constantly. Sometimes it haunts my dreams. But it’s a truth that I should have shared a long time ago.

When it comes to design (print, web, anything) you have only three choices:

  1. You can have it cheap.
  2. You can have it quick.
  3. You can have it right.
But only ONE!
If you want it cheap, it won’t be quick and probably not right. If you want it quick, it won’t be cheap and probably still not right. And if you want it right, it won’t be cheap and certainly not quick.
I don’t like to compromise, and I certainly like to make people happy. But this is an axiom that I don’t simply adhere to, it’s a fact of life.
So please. Pick one – and only one!
